Lean Training by QCDMS Consultants for all Sectors
Lean is about doing more with the same resources. Every organization has KPIs or Key Performance Measures, which they need to improve, which can include quality improvement, cost reductions, delivery or need time enhancement. Lean is Toyota production system, it was applied in Toyota manufactory plant first, but now it has been applied in all the sectors.
“Healthcare sector is number 2 after manufactory. And of course all the other service sectors,” says Charanjit Singh (CJ) Bawa, Lean Coach and QCDMS Consultants founder. “We reduced our touch time, great but you haven’t given value back to the client. The reason why Lean is more applicable outside manufacturing is because in manufacturing it’s very easy to see the process steps – whenever the line stops we know where is the problem. But in service, in public service sector it’s very hard to see the process steps. Lean can really help organizations to map those processes by using people in the process and empowering them to find those inefficiencies and improve the processes.”
Joe Pugliese, Echo Technician in Healthcare sector is very impressed with Lean. He thinks that it’s a really good tool, that helps them streamline in the business. He refers to cardiology clinic and Lean is showing them where they are succeeding, where they are failing, where they need to do better. And it really helps them to remove the waste from the process and frees up more time to spend with patients and to just do a better job on the day to day. They can spend less time on work that has no value and more time on the work that does add value.
“This course has been extremely well organized, very well structured, great content, I love the flow and the way that the concepts and ideas will build on one another so that we’re ending up with a holistic picture of how to actually understand and apply Lean techniques,” Alison Munro, Project Management Office in Public Service, shared thoughts on her experience with Lean.
Julia Novik, Leadership and Innovation Coach said that people who took those workshops came out with the practical hand-on exercises and experience by doing practical cases, working in groups with other people and learning from each other. And that allowed them to went back to their offices and they continued skills they’d learned and apply in teaching others to be more productive, to take the projects and introduce the structure that would allow them to move the project in a more efficient way.
Raquelle Forrester, Executive Director in Healthcare Sector, really liked the structure of the event. She thinks that CJ explains things very well. Another thing that she really liked was the fact that all of them were from different industries. So she thinks that when they were sharing the case studies that was very helpful.
“In manufacturing there is always a manufacturing process, in healthcare there is patient in and patient out, which is again done through a process,” concludes Charanjit Singh (CJ) Bawa. “In service sector, for example, in a collision shop – car in/car out. Again – steps, steps, steps. Which is again a process. So they all have steps. It doesn’t matter which sector you are in. In every process there are steps, steps, steps. And Lean can be easily applied where there are process steps.”
